Hikers Rescued in Ulster County

Getting lost anywhere can be very scary, but getting lost in the woods with nightfall approaching and temperatures dropping can also be dangerous.

According to the NYSDEC, on Sunday, September 13, an Ulster County 911 dispatcher contacted NYSDEC Forest Rangers with a report of five lost hikers. While they were unable to obtain the group's coordinates, the did know that they had water and warm clothing.

Central Dispatch contacted a member of the group and learned that they were on the red trail of Slide Mountain. Ranger Brand and two firefighters from the Phoenicia Fire Department reached the hikers around 11 that evening. They fed them and warmed them. With the help of three other rangers, they walked the group out of the woods around 3 in the morning.

Everyone is reported doing fine and no one needed any further medical treatment.
