Bardavon Presents
On The Waterfront (1954)
Thursday, November 21st at 7:30pm at the Bardavon
(Poughkeepsie, NY) A tale of violence and corruption, On The Waterfront is famous as a showcase of the talents of actor Marlon Brando. Brando won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Terry Malloy, a prizefighter turned dockworker caught in a web of crime and deceit. His performance popularized “method acting” and proved to be a definitive display of the power of great screen acting. The film was a hit at the box office and won a total of eight Academy Awards, including Best Supporting Actress for Eva Marie Saint in her feature film debut.
Each film of the PREMIER PERFORMANCES line-up focusses on legendary stars of the stage and screen in some of their most memorable roles. In addition to the screenings being free of charge, all nine films in the series are preceded by a Happy Hour, featuring half-price beer and wine, as well as free snacks and soda. For all films, Happy Hour starts at 6:30, followed by a 7:30 screening. Additionally, all Bardavon screenings feature a 30-minute pre-show concert by Juan Cardona Jr. on the Bardavon’s Mighty Wurlitzer organ.
