WRWD and iHeartMedia of the HV Welcomes The 2017 Special Olympics

Country 1073, WRWD and iHeartMedia of the Hudson Valley are proud media sponsors of the Special Olympics New York State Winter Games coming to Poughkeepsie this weekend!

In honor of the 2017 Special Olympics New York Winter Games this weekend, you'll notice the Special Olympics flag (pictured above) sponsored by our parent company iHeartMedia of the Hudson Valley and Fidelis Care. The flag it is hanging from the Mid-Hudson Bridge in honor of the Games...this is the only time anything other than a US flag has flown from the bridge! As you ride the bridge take a look! 

More than ONE THOUSAND athletes and coaches from all across New York State will be participating in the games to the Games from all across New York State. Many families can’t make the trip - so we’ll need our community to be at the competitions to watch, cheer and light the fire within these champions to help them win the gold!!

Opening ceremonies hosted by (iHeart sister station) Q92's Joe Daily beginning tonight at 8pm at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center!  The event will feature the Parade of Athletes, entertainment and the lighting of the Special Olympics Cauldron!

Athletic competitions will be held tomorrow (Saturday) morning starting at 8 am and continuing throughout the day.  Events include Alpine Skiing, Cross- Country Skiing, Figure Skating, Floor Hockey and Snowshoe.

Closing Ceremonies will be tomorrow evening starting at 8pm hosted by Country 1073, WRWD's morning show host (weekdays 5 am - 10 am) Party Marty Mitchell at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center.
