Jimmie Allen Tells Story Behind 'Best Shot' (VIDEO)

Releasing a debut single for any artist is a big deal. It takes years of hard work that most people don't get to see. For iHeartCountry On The Verge Artist Jimmie Allen, those years had ups and downs, but now it's his chance to shine. He just released "Best Shot" and we sat down with him to get all the details behind the song.

Allen co-wrote "Best Shot" with Josh Landon and JP Williams, and says he had a melody floating around, but just wasn't sure what to do with it. After talking through the idea, one of the writers threw out the first line of the chorus "when you smile I see the sun sink down, like a coast out in California."

He says the visual that the line painted made them realize they might be on to something. While most songs are written during the initial writing session this song took 4 or 5 sessions to complete.

"We wanted to write a song from an honest point of, I know I might mess up. I'm not perfect, but I'm really trying to be better for you. So I'm going to give this relationship everything I have to make it work."
