Eric Church Performs His Version Of 'We Were' Live With Jeff Hyde

Eric Church and Keith Urban recently teamed up for a new duet version of "We Were." Over the weekend, Church gave fans at a show in Birmingham, Alabama, his first live take on the song.

Joining Church in the performance was Jeff Hyde, who was a co-writer of "We Were" alongside Church and with Ryan Tyndell. "I write all my songs with Jeff, or most of them," Church shares with the crowd before singing. "We're gonna do something we've never done: We're gonna play a song that's a big hit for Keith Urban right now."

Before diving into the song, Church and Hyde joke that the performance might not go as smoothly as they'd like. "If this goes bad, then, you know..." Church jokes.

Urban released the original recorded version of "We Were" back in May of 2019. Since then he's also shared an acoustic version which was most recently followed up by the new collaboration with Church. Urban had previously revealed that he decided to cut the record before he even knew Church was a co-writer on the track.

"I found out and I called Eric, and I was like, ‘Dude, I just cut this song.’ He was thrilled. I said, ‘I had no idea that you were a writer on it.’" Turns out Church thought the song was more fitting for Urban's life anyways. "He found it, and honestly, it fits him more than it fits me,” Church shares adding, "I truly believe songs find the path that they're supposed to find, and one was supposed to be with him."

This is the first time Church and Urban have collaborated since 2013's "Raise 'Em Up." Both country stars are nominated for CMA Entertainer of the Year. The 2019 CMA Awards will air on November 13.
