This year, we've all had our share of bad news, news we didn't want to hear, or news we just couldn't belive. This, however, falls into the category of news that we are happy about.

The NYSDEC has announced that hunting and trapping licenses, along with Deer Managment Permits, will go on sale next week, Monday, August 10. They can be purchased at any of DEC's licensing agents or by calling 866-933-2257. The licenses are good from September 1, 2020 to August 31, 2021.

According to the NYSDEC, with more and more New Yorkers looking for outdoor activities closer to home, there has been a renewed interest in hunting. So to help with the volume of calls, the call center has expanded hours. Starting August 10, the DEC Call Center will be open 8 to 7, Monday through Friday and 9-5 on Saturdays. Normal call hours will resume on October 2.

If you call to obtain your license, you will need your contact information, proof of residency, a valid credit card, and if you aren't already in the system you will need proof of hunter or trapper certification. Get more information here.

Here's to a happy, and safe, hunting season!
