TMSG: Reading Adoption Program Encourages Kids To Read With Help Of Animals

Media Specialist Anne Marie Brown at Artemus Ward School in Cleveland has come up with some creative ways to encourage kids to become stronger readers.

At her school, they're encouraging kids in pre-school through 3rd grade to read more often with the help of being able to adopt one of the 500 stuffed animals that were donated. The Reading Adoption Program allows students to pick out a stuffed animal, name it, and get a certificate. They then had to make a promise to read to the animal 20 minutes a day.

The point of the program was to give students a physical representation, a reminder to read, and a promise to their teacher and family.
