A difficult part of dealing with the loss of a loved one is cleaning out their belongings, but that job took on a disturbing twist for one family in Maine over the weekend.
The children of Douglas Scott, who passed away earlier this year at the age of 82, were cleaning out their father’s residence when they discovered skeletal human remains in an outside shed. They immediately called 911.
You’re already emotional… and then you find that.
The authorities came and took over the outbuilding, with the medical examiner starting a post-mortem examination on the remains Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, Maine State Police say they worked through the weekend assessing the circumstances of the discovery and interviewing witnesses and other “potential persons of interest” in the case.
If the family thought they were going to get closure by cleaning out their dad’s house, they didn’t…and probably won’t for some time. Police say the investigation could take weeks. They also say they don’t believe there is “any threat to the public,” and that they’ll share more information later.
