Some of Major League Baseball's hottest sluggers showed off their power during last night's 2017 Home Run Derby at Marlins Park in Miami, FL. The annual event is a warmup for tonight's annual MLB All Star game.
New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge defeated Minnesota's Miguel Sanó, 11 (HR) to (10) HR. Judge became the fourth Yankee to win a Derby, joining Robinson Canó (2011), Jason Giambi (2002) and Tino Martinez (1997).
In the first round, Judge wasted no time as he belted 23 home runs. He edged out Miami's hometown favorite Justin Bour (22 home runsH). In the semifinals, Judge out-homered fellow rookie, Cody Bellinger of the Dodgers, 13HR-to-12HR, to advance to the finals.
His 47 total homers hit were the most ever by a Yankee in the Home Run Derby, surpassing Canó's total of 32HR in 2011.
Gary Sánchez also participated in this year's Home Run Derby, hitting 17HR in the first round to defeat reigning-champion Giancarlo Stanton (16 HR). In the semifinals, his 10 HR fell shy of Sanó (11HR).
