Eric Church felt the show must go as scheduled at the Grand Ole Opry Wednesday night.
As he fought back tears, Eric admitted that he didn’t actually want to perform that night but changed his mind after seeing Las Vegas concertgoer Heather Melton being interviewed by Anderson Cooper. Heather’s husband Sonny died in the Las Vegas shooting, and Heather revealed that they went to the festival to see Eric, who she said was Sonny’s “guy.” She also revealed that they had tickets to go to Eric’s Opry show, and Eric said two seats in the house were left empty to honor the couple.

Last night at the Grand Ole Opry- me, Eric Church, and thousands of others mourned the tragedy that occurred in Vegas! We FELT anger for the evil in this world. We FELT deep sadness for those who lost their loved ones. We FELT pride for the heroes who risked their lives….and we FELT the heaviness of the 2 empty seats in a packed house….2 empty seats that belonged to the now famous couple from Tennessee who attended the music festival in Vegas. When the shooting began, Sonny Melton shielded his wife from the bullets and died saving her life. Sonny and Heather were huge Eric Church fans and were attending the festival because Eric Church was headlining one of the nights…. Sonny and Heather had tickets to Eric Church’s concert at The Grand Ole Opry last night!...just heart breaking! @ericchurchmusic @opry #opry #grandoleopry #hallelujah #music #musictherapy #musiccity #nashville #tennessee #prayforvegas #tennessee #countrymusic #countrystrong
