A cosmetic plant explosion in New Windsor, New York has left one person is dead and more than 30 people have been injured including seven firefighters. Officials say they received a 911 call after 10am of an explosion at the Verla International plant in New Windsor. When firefighters arrived they were met by a second blast. The identity of the people killed or injured has not been released.
Brendan Casey, Commissioner of Emergency Services of Orange County, says the plant makes mainly nail polish and perfume – as both are alcohol based, it’s believed that no large amounts of Hazmat material were released. The troubling news? The company was cited nine times in the last year – and paid more than $40-thousand in fines.
