It's not an early April Fools prank. Little Caesars can't miss "safe bet" tweet will cost the company big bucks.
Little Caesars' promotion..."If Crazy Happens 2018" offered Free pizza For everyone If a 16-seed beat a 1-seed in March Madness . . . and It actually happened.
Before Friday's NCAA tournament game, they tweeted that if a 16 seed beats a one seed, they'd give everyone in the country a free lunch combo . . . that's a personal deep dish pizza and a bottle of soda. That SEEMED like a safe bet. Oops!
Well, you know what happened next. For the first time in the history of the NCAA tournament -- a #16 seed knocked off a #1 seed, with the University of Maryland Baltimore County stunning top overall seed Virginia 74-54.. They were 0-and-135 up to then. Adding insult to injury is the fact that this win was UMBC's first NCAA Tournament win in school history.
So now, on April 2nd, you can go to a participating Little Caesars between 11:30 A.M. and 1:00 P.M. and get yourself a free lunch. You may want to place your order early. They are expecting a busy lunch crowd.
Amazingly, before the game, there were just 25 perfect brackets out there playing the major online bracket competitions. All of them picked Virginia to win. All of those perfect brackets went down in flames.
That means, out of tens of millions of brackets on big-time websites, only 25 had every pick right … until Friday.
And, it's especially painful for the 14 percent of brackets that actually had Virginia picked to win the championship.
