One week from Saturday, on April 14th a two-part HBO Elvis Presley documentary, “Elvis Presley: The Searcher,” is set to premiere.
The soundtrack for the HBO special comes out tomorrow (April 6th) featuring alternate versions of some well-known Elvis classics.
Among the new takes on the album is a stripped back version of “Suspicious Minds,” called “Suspicious Minds (Take Six),” which features less horns and some organs.
For the three-hour documentary, Elvis’ estate allowed director Thom Zimmy to delve into their massive vault, which means the doc includes a lot of unseen footage and music. “That was one of the exciting parts because every day I was discovering new gems of Elvis Presley’s archives,” Zimmy tells Billboard.
The movie also features interviews with like Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and Emmylou Harris, although most of the time you only hear their voices over footage of Elvis. “Most documentaries, you see people talking, and I think that takes you out of the film,” Priscilla Presley shares. “So you do get distracted, where here, you take on the flow, you can see what’s going on visually and you’re not taken out of that moment, and I think that’s brilliant.” Check out the new version of “Suspicious Minds” below.
