Sugarland continued their performed on American Idol's Top 24 All-Star Duets Monday night.
The duo performed their hit, "Stay" with American Idol contestant Gabby Barrett as part of Top 24 All-Star Duets in front of a live audience and Judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie on American Idol 2018.
The contestants sent home by the judges: Dominique, Brandon Diaz, Layla Spring, Trevor McBane and Kay Kay.
The seven who'll go on to compete for America's vote? Cade Foehner, Michelle Sussett, Dennis Lorenzo, Michael J. Woodard, Gabby Barrett, Jonny Brenns and Catie Turner.
Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles has an interesting take on what the show has meant to music. She notes that “Idol” “changed the industry,” because it sort of shoved musicians into the spotlight way before they had to pay their dues, noting, “you get to see an interesting part of that artist’s trajectory.”
While she says that not many of the contestants actually make it, she notes the “drama of it” made for good TV. She adds, “whether or not one actually goes on to make a career out of it, the percentages of that are basically just like they are for anyone else… Just as impossible!”
This Sunday night on ABC at 8 p.m. ET, the other 12 contestants will perform solo, and next Monday night, also at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, they'll perform duets with Rachel Platten, Bebe Rexha, Lea Michele, British singer/songwriter Banners, Colbie Caillat, Allen Stone and country star CAM.
The show will be competing with the 53rd Annual ACM Awards with Reba who replaces Luke Bryan and Dierks Bentley as the show's host this Sunday night at 8 pm from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
