Elvis Presley’s Drummer D.J. Fontana Has Passed Away at 87

Elvis Presley’s drummer D.J. Fontana passed away Wednesday in his sleep at the age of 87.

Fontana played drums behind Elvis for 14 years from from 1954 to 1968. He's featured on classic Elvis recordings including “Jailhouse Rock” and “Heartbreak Hotel.” 

Fontana has also appeared in many of Elvis’ films, including "G.I Blues," "King Creole," "Jailhouse Rock" and "Loving You."

In addition to Elvis, Fontana also played with Ringo Starr. worked Ringo on his 1970 country album “Beaucoups of Blues.”

Fontana became a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009, and is also a member of the Musicians Hall of Fame and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.
