According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, local agencies will be will be ensuring that restrictions, put in place by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, to the people and businesses here in Dutchess County.
Local businesses who are demanded non-essential have been told to close till April 19th. Residents of the area have also been instructed to stay home.
Poughkeepsie Journal had the chance to talk with Capt. John Watterson from the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office.
He said, at the time the article was posted, that there have been no issues with compliance and have made no arrest that pertain to the restrictions.
Here is how local agencies will handle if they find a business open, or gatherings, under the new restrictions.
- Officers will first check to see if the business is listed as essential
- If the business is not listed as essential they will seek voluntary compliance.
- If a business is open and deemed non-essential, the business can face up to $10,000 in penalties for not complying.
- If there is a large gathering the officers will simply ask for the party to disperse.
- If they do not comply then action will be taken
